Raina was use to being alone. In fact she desired to be alone. She had cut herself off from the world because she had lost one that she loved. She hadn't asked much of life but life had asked a lot of her.
She’d been crippled by depression for too long. She knew this, but if she hid herself away than she couldn't be hurt again.
Normalcy! That's all she needed now. She wanted to feel like a normal living breathing person. But again life has a wicked sense of humor. Normalcy she did not get.
In walks a whole lot of abnormal, and a whole lot of intrigue. Of no choice of her own, her dreams are bombarded by two strangers.
The silver eyed savior with the commanding voice, she can deal with. It's the green eyed devil with a penchant for mischief that has her worried. Soon her worry turns to full on panic when the strangers not only invade her dreams but her real life.
But they both bring something into her life that she's needed.
Nolan shows her that she is of great worth and that spark that she thought she had lost long ago with her previous love is still capable of burning.
The green eyed one, shows her redemption and change are never too far gone even when he acts as though he were the devil himself.
They carry secrets with them and she desires to know why they are here and what they want of her! She soon finds that immortality has been gifted to them! She also finds that their eyes do not see as mortals see. Her unremarkable appearance is seen as a great thing of beauty in their sight. In their world, inner beauty does truly shine through!
She is asked to keep all of this is a secret and in turn they will keep her safe and secret as well. She is even offered the chance to completely forget all that she has learned. She refuses to let go.
Raina, who had always been intrigued by the paranormal, must now accept it's realness in her life. And she must accept the role that she's given when neither are able to keep her a secret. And those with not as pure of heart seek to take the beauty she has.
She found in herself a strength that she didn't know she had. She found that the normalcy she once craved would no longer satisfy her. She needed this jolt so that she could transform. What she had once found fantasy was now her true reality.

Sarah Brocious was born into a steadily growing family. She is one of eight siblings. Growing up in a "crowded" home gave her a great need to slip away for some time alone. In those times she chose to read or write. She found no greater joy than creating stories. This desire continued to grow but as does often happen...life got in the way. Her love for writing did not diminish. It was pushed aside for a time. Now she has decided to put her "need to" aside and give into the want to.

Nolan, Raina, and Thanatos were created one evening as I sat out on my back deck. I had just watched the sun set through the trees of my backyard and I watched the shadows start to form. I had a moment of fear that came out of no where but quickly dissipated. My mind went to happier things. The sun disappeared and I was left watching the branches of the trees. I began to think of all those fun things that race through your mind when night falls. I allowed my imagination to run with it. I was raised with the belief in angels and demons...of guardians and supernatural happenings. I began to wonder how awesome it would be if I was being watched over by an unknown. My heart started to race and I got this burst of excitement and inspiration. Two years later...yes, I took my time with this one...The Awakening was completed. I believe that an author should put themselves into their characters (we often do). This is a paranormal story, but I am very much a part of each character. I am Raina's uncertainty and insecurity. I am Nolan's big heart and old-fashioned ideals. I am Thanatos's mischievous ways and strength. I hope you will see yourself in this story. And I hope it will make you believe that anything is possible. You just have to have a little faith.

I could not put this book down and was very unhappy when I was forced to do so. As the book unfolds, you slowly get sucked into Raina's life and emotions. You feel all the joy, fear, and sorrow Raina faces through her meeting and subsequent relationships with Nolan and Thanatos. Just when the book ends, you are praying that it continues. I had never really read this "supernatural" genre before other than a couple young adult novels. I honestly wasn't sure I was going to like it, when I started reading it. Nevertheless, it surprised me! I really love the way the author writes, so I, easily, got sucked into the storyline. Overall, I truly enjoyed the story and was glad to hear there was a sequel!

Read a while back and didn't know how to put into words my feelings on this book. I've read paranormal stuff before and love anything to do with witches, vampires, immortals. They are filled with romance and dashing dark men. There is always a draw to the dark. So when I started this that is what I expected. What I got? Swept up into a world that was all its own. The draw is not to the dark but to the light. The immortals in this story are so close to human. I think the description was (and this may go into the second book, so I hope it doesn't spoil anything.) "Humans with the gift of immortality" They aren't sparkly. They don't have lightning fast speed. They are not vampires. But each immortal is gifted. Their gifts as a mortal are magnified in immortality wether those gifts are good or bad. Loved this. I am still kind of living there each time I think of Raina, Nolan or Thanatos. READ IT!

I was a little confused in the begining, but it was more my own doing than the author because I tend to want to know everything about the characters and their backrounds immediately!! Sarah reveals everything I wanted to know at first throughout the story, so in the end, I'm very happy! The story is a little "out there", but if you don't believe in the supernatural (for lack of better terms), then what do you believe in? ;) And, in true Sarah fashion, this book is also good romance!!! I can't wait to read the sequel!!
